Is AI Killing our Creativity?
When a
question or problem arises, do you pause and think, or do you immediately open
an AI app for the answer?
Our mind is
a wonderful machine; no human invention can surpass it. Our ability to make
decisions based on emotions and empathy sets us apart from other living beings
and makes it impossible for anyone to replace human beings.
I feel lucky
I grow up in a time when technology was at its infancy, and as I was still
young when mobile phones were introduced – a truly great invention. But over
time, I noticed human lifestyle and behaviour changing. Instead of using technology,
many of us slowly became consumed by it.
What I realized
is that technology has brought immense convenience, but at a subtle cost. We
become more robotic in our actions – we respond in unawareness and don’t feel
deeply.
Now, with
the advent of AI, things are promised to get easier. Ai is a tool which
provides answer to everything you ask it. It writes for us, thinks for us,
suggests for us and even decides for us. Wow! That’s Amazing. That will make us
to do things at amazing speed, A super human type. But, here the trap.
Ease comes
at cost, and the cost is complacency. In my opinion, AI is making us lazy, and
laziness kills creativity. When everything is available at our finger tips we
stop trying, searching and struggling. And these struggles, searching for
answers within us and trying different ways to solve problems, make us
creative.
Think about
it.
The best ideas
don’t come instantly. They come when we sit with a problem, wrestle with it,
and allow our mind to explore possibilities. But if we use AI for instant and
everything, we skip the entire process and move from thinking to selecting.
With time
this complacent behaviour will change the brain structure, because our brain if
kept unused weakens. Just as muscles atrophy when not exercised, our mental
setup loses sharpness if not challenged.
Creativity
comes when we challenge, struggle, make continuous efforts and explore
different ways to solve a problem. If we bypass this process the brain can become
passive, just consuming information instead of producing it. Th danger is not
just laziness but the slow erosion of the brain’s capacity to think deeply and
independently.
AI is
blessing if used just as a tool.
Ai can
enhance our thinking capabilities if we use it as a tool and not as a substitute
for our brain. It should act as the editor not the creator of the thoughts. When
we treat AI as the source of the thinking it will paralyze our capability of
thinking critically. But when we treat it as a catalyst, we can combine human intuition,
empathy, and deep thinking with technology efficiency to get remarkable results.
If we remain
mindful, AI can become a mirror that will reflect our creativity back to us, magnified
rather than diminished.
